Creating a Laundry Routine

June 7, 2015 By Leila Leave a Comment

I think there are many parents that can empathize when I say that our laundry never seems to be done! Every time I think we get ahead, I turn around to what looks like a big clothing monster vomitted all over the house!

It was time for a change so we recently created a laundry routine so that we are free to be!

Creating a Laundry Routine

Creating a Laundry Routine

1. Laundry baskets.

We had a variety of the small rectangle ones, tall round ones, and Rubbermaid tubs; all acting like laundry baskets. And never enough!

Off to the store we went and got all matching laundry baskets. Enough for every ‘laundry pile’ we had.

2. Labels.

With 5 people in the home, baskets end up everywhere and usually, not where they belong.

I labeled each of our baskets: K, B, A, hot dark, hot cold, whites (I am not sure on the labeling, but that was hubby’s request based on how he washes our laundry. Label them however it fits for your family.)

3. Get the kids involved.

The kids’ baskets are kept in their rooms where dirty clothes get put. They then bring them to the laundry room on their scheduled day. Daddy washes them. The kids put them in the dryer, get them out of the dryer, put them back into their basket, and take it to their room where we help fold and put them away.

4. Schedule.

We never had a schedule or routine other than my clothes get washed the night before I went to work. The kids got washed when they reminded hubby they needed to be done (yes, hubby does the laundry in our home.)

To keep everyone happy and get their clothes washed, hubby created a schedule.

Sunday – bedding
Monday – Mommy (I work Tuesday and Thursday)
Tuesday – A
Wednesday – Daddy
Thursday – K
Friday – B
Saturday – towels

Creating a laundry routine has helped us be free to be, go, and do what we want – especially now that it’s summer!

In addition, we are using all free clear laundry detergent – a detergent that is safe on sensitive skin, but tough on stains.

We have been teaching the older two how to do laundry (okay, fine hubby has been teaching them) so on our last trip, we purchased the all free clear mighty pacs so that we don’t have to fuss about measuring right now (or the mess they will potentially make pouring liquid deteregent!)

I know that with all free clear, my clothes are getting clean while I am out being free and when paired with all free clear fabric softener and dryer sheets; the entire family is good to go! Even A who has sensitive skin!

Be sure to snag your coupon for all free clear before you head out the door to the store!
