As a parent, I always like to do things as a family. Unfortunately, with kids that range in age from 1 to 9, it can be difficult to find something we all will enjoy.
Lucky for me, I found the perfect family fun entertainment – The Duttons!
(My photos from that night did not turn out great. This shot was ‘borrowed’ from the Dutton Facebook page. It was a photo taken by Tim Johnson from KSL television on February 6th 2015)
K and I went with Blended Extended to see the Dutton family perform in East Mesa.
I have to say, I have lived here in Arizona – in the East Valley of Arizona – since March 2003 and I have never heard of the Dutton family prior to this! And I’m really upset about that!
The Dutton family is a great live performance for all ages! If I would have known about them before, I would have taken my grandparents when they still came down to Arizona during the cold Minnesota winter months! I know they would love the show – it is no doubt, family fun entertainment for all ages!
The Duttons are international touring and recording artists that play everything from bluegrass to classical in their shows, featuring a variety of instruments: violin, guitar, bass, viola, banjo, mandolin, keyboard, harmonica and drums among others. The Duttons have not only won recognition in national fiddling contests, and as studio musicians but have also garnered praise and awards in classical violin competitions.
In addition to their instrumental virtuosity, the Duttons are accomplished singers and dancers and have been recognized as superb vocal talents. Behind the scenes, The Duttons collaborate to create unique production ideas for their shows which delight audiences. The show is self produced by the family including choreography, musical arrangement, technical support, production, and marketing, the end result of which is the audience streaming from the theater proclaiming, “This is the best show I have ever seen in my life!”
The entire show was family from young to old and so was the audience!
I brought K, age 9, and I know some of the other ladies brought their children who were close in age to Buggy and younger. I even saw a baby there so we are talking about an audience from baby to senior – enjoying a fabulous night of entertainment.
The Duttons consist of mom and dad – Sheila and Dean – who I got the pleasure to meet before the show. They have 7 children, and 5 of them currently perform (1 of the girls, Abby, was not able to perform the night we went as she had to remain in Branson, Missouri, where the Dutton family is most of the year.)
Tim, his wife Judith, and their children perform. (And I have to tell you, those kids are amazing! I think K may have a crush on their son after he came out singing Danke Schoen!)
Jon performs and we get to see his kids sing and dance, as well as his beautiful wife.
Amy is a wonder on the violin and fiddle, as well as sings and dances. Her boys all made a presence on the stage at some point or another, singing, dancing and/or playing! Amy’s youngest, 4 year old Josiah, was able to join on stage for a few minutes a couple of times. This was the first time in 2 years he was able to join the family on stage as he has leukemia (and is as cute as a button!)
Lastly, we had Ben who sang, danced, played and had his boys and wife singing, dancing, and/or playing too.
In fact, I have to share this video. It is from 2012, but it is a short video of K’s new (older) ‘crush’ (so much so she had to get his autograph!)
I have to admit that the bit between Julio and Jon was the funniest thing I have seen in a long time (tears running down my cheeks funny!)
The entire show is family friendly – nothing inappropriate – so no worrying what your kids may see or hear.
I plan on taking back my entire family as well as my in-laws because I know this is a show everyone will love!
You can find the Dutton family on social media!
If you are interested in seeing the Duttons, you can purchase tickets online for their Arizona or Branson shows! (They are currently in Arizona until April 4th!)
