While there are people who are familiar with essential oils and their uses, there are people who are not.
Whether you are new or experienced, you can find all the essential oil information I share on my ‘essential oil‘ tab.
To add to that information, here are the 3 basic ways how to use essential oils.
1. Internally. If you are comfortable with it, you can add essential oils to your water, tea or other drinks. (Be sure to use glass or stainless steel when putting citrus oils in a beverage.)
They are also great for adding flavor to baked goods, and can be put in capsules to be taken internally.
2. Topically. Oils are rapidly absorbed by the skin so applying an oil to the body (back, feet, wrists, neck, stomach, etc.) works great.
When applied topically, essential oils take 2-3 minutes for an oil to reach the bloodstream; 20 minutes to affect every cell in the body; and is metabolized within 2 ½ hours. Remember that most oils should be diluted with a carrier oil (e.g. coconut oil.)
3. Aromatically. Inhaling essential oils only takes 22 seconds for the scent of the oil to reach the brain. Personally, this is my favorite way to use essential oils and there are different ways you can use them.
You can diffuse the oils in a diffuser. I currently have a diffuser in my room, a diffuser in B’s room, and a diffuser in the living room. Not only does it help us inhale the scent, but it purifies the air, makes the room smell good, and you get all the benefits.
You can place 2-3 drops of oil in your hands and cup them to your nose, allowing you to inhale the scent of the oil.
My second favorite was to use my essential oils aromatically is wearing a diffuser necklace. Not only can you find some gorgeous necklaces, but the oil remains on you and near you all day.
My diffuser necklace came from Michelle DaLeigh Jewelry and Hair Accessories on Etsy. She has an awesome variety of necklaces that are gorgeous.
Each diffuser necklace comes with felt pieces that are cut to fit in your diffuser. You drop a few oils on the felt piece, place it in the necklace and away you go; prepared with your essential oil of choice for the day!
It really is a great way to use essential oils aromatically especially if you can’t be in a room with a diffuser all day long (my office doesn’t allow a diffuser so my necklace is the perfect compromise!)

**The FDA requires Young Living to label their oils as either dietary and cosmetic. Young Living had to choose the PRIMARY usage for each oil, since they can be used in so many different ways. YL follows the French model of essential oil usage because of the high quality of our essential oils. If in doubt about how to use an oil it’s always great to start with the primary usage on the label and then go from there as you see fit for your family.**
